Tesla announces its earnings report! Did they trade Bitcoin?

Electric car maker Tesla announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2026. The value of digital assets included in the company’s balance sheet increased from $786 million as of March 31, 2026 to $674 million as of June 30, 2026.

Tesla made no purchases or sales of Bitcoin during the quarter. Therefore, the approximately $112 million decrease observed in the balance sheet value of digital assets was due to the change in the price of Bitcoin, not a decrease in the amount of Bitcoin held by the company.

Tesla’s digital assets were valued at $1.235 billion in the second quarter of 2025. This increased to $1.315 billion in the third quarter of 2025, before falling to $1.008 billion by the end of the year. The company ended the first quarter of 2026 with $786 million and the second quarter with $674 million in digital assets.

Tesla reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $28.24 billion, beating market expectations of $26.36 billion. However, adjusted earnings per share remained at 33 cents, below analysts’ expectations of 54 cents. The company also reported negative free cash flow of $1.1 billion in the second quarter.

In its statements regarding operational developments, Tesla noted that interest in its vehicles remains high in markets where its fully autonomous driving system has been certified. The company also announced that it has more than doubled its on-site computing capacity in Texas during the first half of 2026.

The Tesla Semi and Megapack 3 projects are reportedly progressing according to their planned production schedules, while production of the Optimus humanoid robot is expected to begin later this year at the Fremont factory.
