Lubin hails Vitalik Buterin as Ethereum’s most important steward amid sci-fi novel turmoil

Ethereum co-founder and Consensys CEO Joseph Lubin has reappeared on social media to defend Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s latest intellectual effort: writing a science fiction novel.

Lubin praised Buterin as a “highly effective communicator,” saying he remains “the most important contributor and steward of the Ethereum ecosystem.”

Fictional governance

Amid a sharp correction in Ethereum’s price, the community is perplexed by some of Buterin’s personal choices.

Buterin is currently writing a science fiction novel focused on decentralized governance.

The Canadian wunderkind announced the project on decentralized social protocol Farcaster, sparking rather mixed reactions among ETH fans.

Buterin has already published the first two chapters directly on his personal website.

The novel is set in a fictional nation, in which it explores and tests sophisticated mechanisms like quadratic voting and artificial intelligence-assisted decision-making.

The literary effort, which has raised eyebrows among some within the cryptocurrency community, aims to expose the limitations of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), which include financial imbalances and more.

Some community members have publicly criticized Buterin.

In addition to the significant price drop, the Ethereum Foundation was affected by the departure of nine core members.

Lubin, however, fiercely defended the project.

“Anyone who thinks that in writing fiction Vitalik isn’t choosing the most effective way he can think of to drive the growth and adoption of Ethereum is missing the point,” Lubin argued.

Lubin believes that this artistic exploration of themes of privacy and cyberpunk can be linked to the need for the Ethereum network. He noted that while “collective capitalism” will likely be integrated into the fundamental layers of the economy, the world desperately needs a “truly neutral and credible global digital asset coordination and settlement platform.”

According to Lubin, the Ethereum Foundation is currently the only entity configured to safeguard this specific vision of “credible neutrality, censorship resistance, open source and privacy.”
