US President Donald Trump has announced that he will increase global tariffs on goods from 10 to 15 percent, effective immediately. In a statement following the ruling, Trump argued that the increase was “well within legal limits and legally tested.”
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump harshly criticized the US Supreme Court’s decision regarding tariffs. Calling the decision “absurd, poorly written and extraordinarily un-American,” Trump said that after months of deliberations, he had decided to take further action.
In his statement, President Trump argued that many countries have been “exploiting the United States without compensation” for decades, and said he was increasing global tariffs from 10% to 15%, which he described as “fully authorized and legally justified.” He said the increase would take effect “immediately.”
The president noted that the Trump administration would determine and announce new “legally enforceable” tariffs in the coming months, saying the process was part of his goal to “make America great again.” Trump argued that the new trade policies aim to strengthen the U.S. economy and address existing trade imbalances.
